BYRON ADAMS - USA
Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Adams was educated at Jacksonville University, the University of Southern California, and Cornell University, where he earned a doctoral degree studying musicology with William Austin and composition with Karel Husa. Adams is a composer of tonal music with a strong stylistic profile who employs individual adaptations of traditional techniques. In 1977, Adams won the Grand Prize of the Delius Festival Composition Competition; in 1984, he was awarded the Raymond Hubbell-ASCAP award for his compositions.
PHILIP GLASS - USA
He was born in 1937 and grew up in Baltimore. He studied at the University of Chicago, the Juilliard School and in Aspen with Darius Milhaud. Finding himself dissatisfied with much of what then passed for modern music, he moved to Europe, where he studied with the legendary pedagogue Nadia Boulanger (who also taught Aaron Copland , Virgil Thomson and Quincy Jones) and worked closely with the sitar virtuoso and composer Ravi Shankar. He returned to New York in 1967 and formed the Philip Glass Ensemble – seven musicians playing keyboards and a variety of woodwinds, amplified and fed through a mixer.
KEVIN OLSON - USA
Kevin Olson is an active pianist, composer, and member of the piano faculty at Utah State University, where he teaches piano literature, pedagogy, and accompanying courses.
A native of Utah, Kevin began composing at age five. When he was twelve, his composition, An American Trainride, received the Overall First Prize at the 1983 National PTA Convention at Albuquerque, New Mexico. Since then he has been a Composer in Residence at the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy, and has written music commissioned and performed by groups such as the American Piano Quartet, Chicago a cappella and others.Many of the needs of his own piano students have inspired more than 100 books and solos published by the FJH Music Company, which he joined as a writer in 1994.
NATALIYA MEDVEDOVSKAYA - USA
Russian born NATALIYA is a professional, versatile, award winning concert pianist, composer, arranger, songwriter, poet and lyricist, who creates memorable and unique compositions with a focus on brightness of melody and richness of harmony. Her compositions cross the boundaries between Classical Contemporary and Popular music, embracing a wide range of genres. NATALIYA’s music goes from being dramatic, deep, mature and soulful, to being playful and whimsical/cartoon-like, often dynamic, expressive, refreshing and novel, always filled with imagination.
CATHERINE ROLLIN - USA
Catherine Rollin is a pianist, composer, clinician and teacher of prize-winning students. Her more than 200 published pedagogical compositions are recognized worldwide for their combination of musicality and “teachability.” Rollin received her principle training with Mischa Kottler, a disciple of von Sauer and Cortot. Catherine’s early interest in Baroque performance practice led her to study harpsichord for two summers while still in high school with the world renowned harpsichordist, Dorothy Lane at Northwestern University. Rollin holds the BMA degree with distinction from U. of Michigan and the MM from Oakland U. In 2002, the latter awarded her their Alumni Achievement Award.
ALFRED WATSON - USA
Composer-pianist, Alfred Watson received his degree from The Juilliard School. His compositions which number over 200, bear the influence of the romantic and impressionistic periods. Internationally known pianist Frederic Moyer described Watson's music in this quote "it has heart, beautiful melodies, masterful piano writing, scrumptious harmonies, wonderful voice leading. It boggles the mind, really"
SEYMOUR BERNSTEIN - USA
Born in Newark, New Jersey, Seymour Bernstein was already teaching piano at the age of fifteen, his teacher at the time, Clara Husserl, having arranged for him to supervise the practicing of some of her gifted younger pupils. He soon had a class of pupils of his own, some of whom are still studying with him. Seymour Bernstein studied with such notable musicians as Alexander Brailowsky, Sir Clifford Curzon, Jan Gorbaty, Nadia Boulanger, and Georges Enesco. ALICIA JONAS - USA
A graduate from the Warsaw Conservatory of Music, Alicia Jonas trained at The Juilliard School and Mannes School of Music in New York City. Alicia Jonas has lectured, performed and published internationally. Alicia actively contributes to EPTA Piano Journal and has been recognized for her innovative training method by distinguished musicians from respected institutions. Alicia has been an acting Chairperson for the New York State Music Teachers, Inc for over 8 years; 2 years as Chairperson for Piano Congress, 20th Century and Beyond; 10 years arranging piano music for Warner Brothers; and author of multiple acclaimed musical teaching books.
LISA DONOVAN LUKAS - USA
Lisa Donovan Lukas is a composer, songwriter, pianist/vocalist, and music teacher. She began classical piano lessons at the age of six, and was writing songs (with both music and lyrics) as well as music compositions by the age of eleven. Lisa received her Bachelor of Music degree in Composition from The University of Southern California where she studied with Morten Lauridsen, James Hopkins, Anthony Vazzana, Robert Linn, and William Kraft. ALEXANDER PESKANOV - USA
Alexander Peskanov was born in Odessa, Ukraine, where he attended the Stoliarsky School of Music. Peskanov is a composer of numerous works, but has mainly focused on music involving the piano. Peskanov has written 16 piano concertos, including 13 for young pianists of different levels. His Concerto No. 1 for Piano and Strings was selected for use by the National Federation of Music Clubs between 2004 and 2020 as well as his Spring Concerto for 2016 - 2020. Mr. Peskanov has been awarded 1st Prize at 2017 Fidelio Composer's Competition in Madrid, Spain. Peskanov has recorded for Naxos Record’s American Classics series and Musical Heritage Society. He is the recipient of three special ASCAP awards.
FREDERIC RZEWSKI - USA
Rzewski began playing piano at age 5. He attended Phillips Academy, Harvard and Princeton, where his teachers included Randall Thompson, Roger Sessions, Walter Piston and Milton Babbitt.
Many of Rzewski's works are inspired by secular and socio-historical themes, show a deep political conscience and feature improvisational elements. Some of his better-known works include The People United Will Never Be Defeated! (36 variations on the Sergio Ortega song El pueblo unido jamás será vencido), a set of virtuosic piano variations written as a companion piece to Beethoven's Diabelli
RANDALL WOOLF - USA
Randall Woolf studied composition privately with David Del Tredici and Joseph Maneri, and at Harvard, where he earned a Ph.D. He is a member of the Common Sense Composers Collective. He is the Composer/Mentor for the Brooklyn Philharmonic. He has received a Guggenheim Fellowship, and grants from NYSCA, NYFA, Meet The Composer, the Cary Trust, and others.
He has created 3 pieces for video and live instruments with directors Mary Harron (director of “American Psycho”) and John C. Walsh, most recently “Gandharba’s Song”, commissioned by the Brooklyn Philharmonic for concertmaster Deborah Buck.
